Nintendo Will No Longer Sell Original Switch Consoles In Europe

Beginning next February, Nintendo will no longer sell original Switch hardware in Europe due to new regulations. This will include all Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED consoles. This is due to European regulations that require that hardware contain user replaceable batteries.

Beginning later this year, Nintendo will begin manufacturing and selling revised products that allow for such battery replacements. This includes the Nintendo Switch 2 console, all joy cons, and the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Older Switch consoles and the original Switch Pro Controller will not be replaced with new models, Nintendo will simply cease production and sale in Europe.

The Nintendo Switch is already one of the best-selling consoles of all time, and the Switch 2 has been available for a year. It does make sense to cease production of a decade old console since everyone should have it or the Switch 2 by now. But that might not always be the case as the original Switch consoles continue to be an affordable gaming option for younger generations.
