Gold Ship is one of the strangest and most chaotic trainees in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, and that’s exactly what makes her so much fun to use. Well, fun is a strong word if you’re actively trying to build a strong runner because she’s going to make you pull your hair out once or twice per career. She has incredible potential in long-distance races, but she can also be frustrating if you don’t build her correctly. Unlike more flexible trainees like Oguri Cap, Gold Ship performs best when you lean into her strengths instead of trying to make her fit every race type.
The first thing to know is that Gold Ship excels at long races. She has an A aptitude for Long races, an A on Turf, and an A as a Late Surger. While she can technically compete in Medium races with the right inheritances, she really shines in longer events where her unique skill and late-race speed can make the biggest impact. If you have strong parents, raising her Long aptitude to an S should be one of your top priorities.
Once your career begins, your biggest focus should be Speed and Stamina. Gold Ship needs plenty of stamina to comfortably finish longer races, and she still requires high speed to keep up with the pack before making her move in the final stretch. After those two stats, Power should be your next priority so she can overtake other runners when her skills activate. You won’t need that much though. Wit is also worth investing in since it increases the chances of her important skills activating at the right time.
When choosing skills, prioritize ones that recover stamina, or increase speed during the final stretch. Even if you have a ton of stamina, you’ll still need more skills just to be safe. Since Gold Ship is a Late Surger, skills that activate late in the race tend to provide the most value. Green skills that boost Turf or Long race performance are also excellent pickups if you know the types of races you’ll be entering. Here are the best stamina skills you should be going after.
Gold Ship may not be as versatile as some other trainees, but she doesn’t need to be. The only thing she needs to be is less of a pain in the ass. Build her specifically for long-distance Turf races, invest heavily in Speed and Stamina, and support her with strong late-race skills. Do that, and you’ll have one of the strongest closers in the game.
