Persona 5 is one of the rare games that I will buy and play multiple times, even though it’s so long. I played the original version on PS4, Royal on PS4, and then Royal again on the Nintendo Switch. I had no qualms with such a long game multiple times because it was lots of fun. But just because it’s fun doesn’t mean some people won’t think it’s too long to try. But how long is the game really?
The original Persona 5 game was already very long, pushing nearly 100 hours of gameplay. Royal is a significantly elevated version that includes DLC, a new palace, and a bunch of extra story stuff. The usual RPG will take you between 30 and 50 hours to beat the main story, but Royal can honestly take you no less than 70. Casual gamers can expect to beat just the main story in roughly 70 to 90 hours.
Completing the main game definitely requires a huge time investment, but there’s even more for those who are looking for more content. There’s multiple difficulty levels if you want a harder playthrough, and there’s multiple endings that offers lots of replay value. Don’t forget the large number of Persona’s to collect and all the social links you might want to master. Taking advantage of everything the game has to offer will take a huge bite out of your week.
Doing the main story and a decent but of collecting and training can push your total playtime to anywhere between 100 and 120 hours. Completionists and those who are big fans of the game and series will find every reason to push past 150 hours. Persona 5 Royal required a huge time commitment, but it’s worth every hour.
