Goose Goose Duck Review (Steam) A Better Social Deduction Game Than Among Us?

I love single player games, but I love being able to play games with a bunch of friends too. That’s what drew me to Among Us back in 2020. Even with all the memes and jokes, it’s a great multiplayer social deduction game. But it does have it’s flaws, so when I found out about Goose Goose Duck in early 2023, my mind was blown. It’s like Among Us but better.

More specifically, it’s like modded Among Us. There’s a group of geese, who are the good guys, and a few ducks, who are the bad guys. The geese do tasks and use their big brains to vote out the ducks. The ducks kill and sabotage everyone while pretending to be good. This is where the similarities to vanilla Among Us end, but there’s so much more to the game.

For starters, there’s so many roles to choose from. There’s dozens of geese roles that each have different abilities, and there’s a dozen duck roles that each get to kill in a different way. There’s even a bunch of neutral roles that have independent abilities and win conditions. It’s never just about doing tasks, everyone always has something to do.

Proximity chat is another huge feature. You get to talk to everyone who’s around you, and you get to talk to all the ghosts while you’re dead. This is the one thing I hated about Among Us, if I died early, I had to do something else until the game ended. I was never bored playing Goose Goose Duck because I could always talk to someone, and proximity chat would often lead to funny moments and situations.

There’s also a huge assortment of game modes and maps, so the games always feel fresh. Plus the game is constantly being updated. The only real downsides are that there are occasional glitches and there’s a ton of micro transactions. But you can’t entirely fault them since it’s a free game. I put nearly 200 hours into the game every year, and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. It’s a fun game, and you should try it.
