A year ago, I played Donkey Kong Bananza. It was the first 3D platformer in more than half a decade that I actually enjoyed. Then I had a similar experience earlier this year when I played a small game called Unsent. It was nowhere near as big, but it was just as fun. Last month, I found another indie gem called Teeto, that might be one of the best indie games of 2026.
The game takes place in a world where a calamity destroyed all of humanity. Animals and inanimate objects gained the ability to speak, and shadow monsters have begun wrecking havoc on the world. You play as a newly created experiment called Teeto, who’s designed to combat the shadow monsters. There’s an interesting story and a fun world, but the gameplay alone is fantastic.
The game is broken into many levels, with each one having at least one objective. Each level also includes a bunch of stuff to collect like stars and failed experiments called Michaels. Gameplay is fun because Teeto can smoothly run and jump wherever he wants. Movement is fast and fluid, and Teeto’s transformations makes the gameplay legendary.
Teeto has the ability to absorb the powers of random objects and use them freely. You can only absorb one power at a time, and it’s very similar to Mario and his power ups. One lets you use vines to grapple across the map. One lets you turn into a rock to smash through obstacles. One even lets you turn into a flamethrower. There’s many more, and they’re all useful for puzzles or fun in their own way.
The gameplay is great, but there’s so much more going on. For instance, I love the collectible ecosystem, with my favorite being the Michaels. You can find them all over the world, and each one has a unique personality and outfit. The ones you collect live with you in the hub world, and you can throw them off the edge of you feel like it. Don’t worry, they respawn.
Lastly, the humor and voice acting are awesome. For instance, I loved the underground level near the start of the game. The radio announcer was hilarious and many of the NPC dialogue was great and voiced. It’s all well-written, clever, and funny. It’s pretty obvious that the game uses indie voice acting, but it works so well for the style and tone
Overall, Teeto is such an amazing experience. You can tell that a lot of effort went into development. It’s a pretty long game with lots of levels, and it’s worth every penny. Personally, it’s one of my top 10 3D platformer games of all time, and I really believe that you’ll love playing it too.
10/10
