When I’m browsing the eshop and looking for new games to play, I always find a bunch of random junk. 90% of the games I find are shovelware, knockoffs of popular games, or AI generated content. I tend to avoid these games at all costs, but I found one that’s a blatant copy of one of my favorite games of 2025, so I had to see what was up. The game is called Ultra Bonk Survivors and it’s an obvious copy of Megabonk.
The game is 98% copied. The mechanics and environments are the same. The level system, inventory system, chests, stages, buttons, dialogue, fonts, and designs are the same. Many of the items and structures are the same but just use a different name. Some of them don’t even bother changing the name though so they’re a 100% copy. From a structural and visual perspective, it’s almost a copy paste. But if it’s a copy of a great game, it should also be good, right?
Nope. The game operates exactly like Megabonk, but it’s significantly worse. First off, the game is way harder. You’re overwhelmed right at the start because there’s two or three times as many enemies fighting you at once. After an hour of playing, I haven’t even managed to beat the first boss once. The camera controls are also really bad, especially in handheld mode. The world is also a mess because you can randomly get stuck in crevices and sometimes the world borders are weird.
I’m not going to tell you what to do with a $10 game, but I would highly advise against picking this up. As long as you have a Steam Deck or a computer or laptop that isn’t from Apple, you can play Megabonk. Go play that instead.
